Loose ends
Loose ends and Weight
Loose ends and Weight were shown together, one on the wall, the other on the floor. They were placed close enough for the
viewer to connect them and make associations of their own, visually and through touch.
Source material for the work came from looking at old dress sewing patterns, road signs and the language of the pattern,
which I found to be evocative and suggestive. Dates and numbers which are relevant to me were also incorporated.
A small artist's book was also made incorporating selected words and phrases from the sewing patterns:
cutting and marking
hooks and eyes
pin and chalk....pin and chalk....pin and chalk...
paper and wheel
with nap without nap
stitch opening closed
distribute fullness evenly
baste across neck edge,
fold neck facing in half,
lenghtwise,
with wrong sides together,
having raw edges even; press
miss petite
